What is the Pledge?

The Jewish Future Pledge is a commitment that from the funds you leave to charity at your passing, at least half will be earmarked to support the Jewish people and/or the State of Israel.

Whether you are writing a will now or in the future, you can take the Pledge today to signal to your family, friends, and community that the Jewish future matters to you.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Meeting the Needs of Tomorrow.

The Jewish community is at a crossroads. A rising percentage of young people are disconnecting from their Jewish identity and Israel. Jewish nonprofit organizations are struggling to attract the next generation of donors.

We are working to ignite a surge in Jewish pride, secure funds to ensure the Jewish future, and spark critical intergenerational conversations about why Jewish organizations and the Jewish people matter.

The Jewish Future Pledge is a worldwide movement inspiring Jews of all backgrounds to commit that from the charity they leave at their passing, at least half is earmarked to support the Jewish people and/or the State of Israel.

Jewish charity is important to us, and we are honored to work with several Jewish foundations and Israeli charities that reflect our mission. Thank you to our partners!

Join thousands of others in pledging to donate to Israel and Jewish charity organizations. Sustain the Jewish Future and leave a legacy to be remembered.

FAQs

I am already giving to Jewish/Israeli causes. Why should I take the Pledge?

If you’re already giving your charitable dollars to Jewish/Israeli causes, taking the Pledge ensures that your legacy reflects your values – and helps clarify your wishes for after you pass.

Taking the Pledge creates an opportunity to spark a conversation with your children and grandchildren about Jewish philanthropy and the Jewish values you hope they will carry on. These conversations and your Pledge contribute to your legacy.

I would like to pledge, but I don’t have a significant capacity to give charitably. Can I still participate?

Yes, absolutely. The Jewish Future Pledge is for everyone, whether you plan to leave $10 or $10 million to charity.

The Pledge is about more than sharing your dollars—it’s also about sharing your stories. Every single Jew—regardless of wealth, denomination, or belief—is part of Am Yisrael, the People of Israel. Everyone has a story to tell, and every dollar makes a difference. By taking the Pledge, you are not only taking part in the Jewish tradition of tzedakah, but you are also ensuring that your wisdom, values, and life lessons live on for generations to come.

What’s at stake?

Over the next 20 years, an estimated $68 trillion will transfer to the next generation. We approximate that Jewish donors will give about 20% of these charitable dollars. The Jewish Future Pledge aims to ensure that half of the funds allocated to charity by Jewish donors – more than $600 billion – are set aside for Jewish causes.

How do we mobilize the next generation?

The Jewish Future Pledge creates an opportunity to start conversations with your children, grandchildren, and community about the Jewish values that have guided your life and the importance of sustaining the Jewish people. These conversations are critical for fostering engagement and support for the organizations to carry on the Jewish tradition.

In addition, we have created the Jewish Youth Pledge, a first-of-its-kind initiative that asks Jewish teens and young adults – ages 13 to 24 – to commit to being active, contributing members of the Jewish community throughout their lives.

Where do my funds go?

None of the Jewish donations or funds committed through this initiative go to the Jewish Future Pledge. You or your descendants choose the best Jewish charities and causes for you.

We know there are many worthy Jewish charities to donate to, and we do not delegate where you allocate your funds. Instead, we allow you to select the organizations you wish to support.

Is the Pledge legally binding?

The Pledge is not a legal commitment. It is a moral commitment. There are many ways to actualize the Pledge. Consult an attorney to help you understand and decide the best way to secure the legal aspects of your Pledge.

I’ve signed the Pledge—now what?

It’s time to start talking, with your family, with your friends, and with your lawyer or wealth advisor. Click here for help with having conversations and other ways to share your wisdom, values, and life lessons.

Why should I publish my Pledge? Can I sign and choose not to have my name published?

You have the option to remain anonymous. Jewish teachings recognize the importance of publicizing one’s good deeds to inspire others to follow the example. A good deed done quietly is certainly admirable. However, by going public with your support, you are setting an example, not only for your friends and family but for the world. Your Pledge has the power to inspire others.

Once someone pledges, how will you make sure they follow through?

The Jewish Future Pledge represents an ethical commitment, and we are here to help in any way we can. We trust that signers of the Pledge will follow through on their commitments to Israeli and Jewish nonprofits.
